Our family history

The family name van Huykelom van de Pas was created by Royal Decree, adding 'van Huykelom' to the name 'van de Pas'. This website focuses on the older branch of our family, 'van de Pas'. Incidentally, there is another double surname in the family, namely 'van de Pas Bravo'.

It is unclear what the exact origin of the surname 'van de Pas' is. There are strong indications that the first family members lived in the area of Oirschot in the Netherlands. Genealogical research may provide more conclusive evidence in the future. The oldest found ancestor is Peter van den Passche, who was born around 1280. His grandson, also named Peter, is the first in the lineage of whom we know where he was born and where he died, namely Udenhout.

The family remained in this area for a long time. Later its members lived in other parts of the province of North Brabant in the Netherlands. Nowadays major branches of the family exist in Belgium, Australia and the United States.

In the 15th century the family consisted of farmers with own estates. The family was able to acquire a large number of estates and houses in the 16th and 17th century, by purchase and by marrying women of prominent families.

From the 17th century onwards, the family has held increasingly Boards: Six members of the van de Pas family, were appointed mayor of Udenhout. They were responsible for the administration and financial accounting within the area. They also collected the taxes.

To this day the family still owns estates in the Udenhout area . Since the turn of the century in 1900, the focus of the family has increasingly shifted to real estate businesses. Nowadays we still are an entrepreneurial family, although there are also local administrators and scientists among the members of our family.
